I Wonder Where You Are
My first serious album “I Wonder Where You Are” was inspired by a time as a student when I took care of patients in a hospice setting. I would go to their houses and listen to their stories, and was amazed by the perspective from someone who was peacefully dying. One gentleman in particular had stopped eating and drinking, and was quietly lying in his bed with his family in the bedroom. Every so often he would say something to his family, but during a later visit I heard him whisper to us, “I can’t wait to go home. My wife is there. I can’t wait to see her.” A wrinkled smile would gently form on his face as he drifted off to sleep again. The next morning, I was informed by the hospice institution that he had passed away in the night. I thought of what he had said the day before, and pictured him silently shedding the weight of this world to see his long-lost beloved. What a strange, reverent mystery death is.
