The Wind, The Waves, and I
“Then he got into the boat and his disciples followed him. Suddenly a furious storm came up on the lake, so that the waves swept over the boat. But Jesus was sleeping. The disciples went and woke him, saying, “Lord, save us! We’re going to drown!”
He replied, “You of little faith, why are you so afraid?” Then he got up and rebuked the wind and the waves, and it was completely calm. The men were amazed and asked, “What kind of man is this? Even the wind and the waves obey him!”
This excerpt from Matthew 8:23-27 has always been powerful to me. We are all trying to navigate our tattered ships, fighting the waves and seeking shelter from the storms. We are all walking in the shadows, trying to find our way home. But it isn’t until I found Him that I realized we are all just shipwrecks in a sea of grace. Our Creator is a whisper in the storm, a lantern in the darkness, a mighty captain in the treacherous seas.
I know some dear friends that are currently navigating full-force hurricanes. Losing sight of shore, they fight the wind and the waves of tragedy, death, doubt, and other haunts that follow them in the shadows.
But praise be to a Mighty Captain that will ALWAYS take the helm of our sinking vessels. He is our anchor, our light, our shelter. Let him come find you, fight for you, and carry you home.
